Tuesday night at iPro Stadium as Derby County will host Middlesbrough.
Although they are seen as one of the favourites to win the title this season, Derby hasn’t had the best start of the season getting only two draws in Championship along with a defeat in the League Cup. Derby managed to hold Bolton to a goalless draw in the opening round in a perfect example of Neil Lennon’s team parking the bus with great effect. The Rams suffered a 2-1 defeat on the road at Portsmouth in the Capital One Cup five days ago, followed by a 1-1 draw at home with Charlton. However, the fixture against Middlesbrough will be a serious test, especially because Boro have scored six goals in their last two games. The fact that Derby were eliminated from the League Cup could serve as an excellent opportunity for them to focus their efforts solely on promotion.
The visitors had a disappointing start into thew new Championship season, as they were held to a goalless draw by Preston North End in the opening round. However, Aitor Karanka’s boys recovered fast and won last weekend against Bolton Wanderers 3-0 and also had a good game in the League Cup scoring another 3 goals against Oldham Athletic. The midfielder Steward Downing said in an interview that Boro must improve in all departments if they are to mount a promotion charge this year.
