The number two in the world Rafael Nadal will face Shapovalov to reach a very important win in ATP Rogers Cup. He starts as a big favourite and he should win this match very easily.
Rafael Nadal needs two wins to become the new number one in the world. He played just yesterday his first game on hard courts after the grass season and he was absolutely amazing as he was able to win in straight sets against Borna Coric conceding only 3 games. The most impressive things was his serve as he won 82% of points with his serve and 50% with the second (he served with 71% of first serves!!). Also, he broke Coric in 4 of his 6 serving games. There was big difference in that match (and Coric always gave problems to Nadal) and the spanish showed that he is fully motivated to be again the number one in the world. He is the second most in form players on tour (after Roger Federer) and the only one that can defeat him. Today, I'm expecting another big performance by Nadal as he will not understimate Shapovalov and he will be focused from the beginning. Nadal played already amazing this season on hard courts as he lost only 4 matches (3 against Federer, two finals and 1 against Querrey, final) playing very offensivly and giving few chances to his opponents. That was confirmed yesterday against Coric and I think that he will do the same today.
Shapovalov is the number 143 in the world. He is a very good players on this surface but he plays mostly challengers and lower tournaments. We have to say that he won first round against Dutra da Silva (he saved two match points) and even against Juan Martin del Potro!! That was a very impressive win by him but del Potro played very bad especially with his serve as he conceded a lot of break points. Shapovalov will have the help of his crowd but he will not win a set. His most positive result I see for him is 6-3/6-4 but Nadal can even win with more difference. I'm not impressed about his win yesterday...I have to be honest, that was a very good one but del Potro was not even nearly at his best. Today, story will be completely different.
There's big difference between these two players and Nadal will not suffer Shapovalov's style of play in my opinion. Under 19,5 is my tip. Odds are really good.
