Frederik Andersen (32-18-5 with a 2.78 GAA and .919 SV%) will start in goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who look to avoid a fifth straight loss after those against the Lightning (3-4 SO), the Panthers (2-3 OT), the Capitals (2-5) and Buffalo Sabres on Monday (3-5).However, the Maple Leafs still have a comfortable twelve-point advantage over ninth-placed Florida Panthers and now Mike Babcock's men will return at Air Canada Centre, where they've recorded nine consecutive victories since the beginning of February, averaging 4.22 goals per game over that span (9-0-0 38/21).
Andersen continues to struggle, as the 28-year-old goalie allowed five goals on 24 shots in Monday's 3-5 loss at KeyBank Center and is 2-2-1 with a 4.12 goals-against and .872 save percentage over his last five contests. In the matter of fact, Andersen has posted a 19-7-2 record with a 2.58 GAA, .925 SV% and three shutouts in his previous 29 starts at Air Canada Centre, but Pittsburgh is definitely not among his favorite opponents, as he's posted a 3.38 goals-against and .901 SV% in six career starts against the Penguins. The last of them was on Feb. 17, when Anderson gave up five goals on 39 shots in the Maple Leafs' 3-5 loss at PPG Paints Arena.
Tristan Jarry (13-5-2 with a 2.66 GAA and .914 SV%), who will start for the Pittsburgh Penguins, stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in Wednesday's 5-2 win in Philadelphia. On the other hand, the 22-year-old netminder has posted a 3.67 goals-against and .891 save percentage in his previous six starts and is 5-3-2 with a 2.60 GAA and .920 SV% in eleven road contests (ten starts).Jarry was pulled at the end of the first period of his previous start against the Maple Leafs after surrendering three goals on just 16 shots in the Penguins' 3-4 loss at PPG Paints Arena on Dec. 9.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off a 5-2 road win against the Flyers on Wednesday, third consecutive for the guests after those against the Islanders on March 3 (2-3 OT) and Calgary Flames two days later (3-4 OT) and ninth in twelve games over the last month. In the matter of fact, more important for my bet is that the Penguins have scored three or more goals in eleven of those twelve outings.
I expect more than six goals in that game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins.
